Antibes real estate
Antibes is situated on the Cote d’Azur (The French Riviera) between the world famous towns of Cannes , to it’s west and Nice to it’s east. It’s a twenty minute drive to Nice airport by motorway or you can take the “Bord du mer” , a lovely drive along the seaside.
The climate in Antibes benefits from being on the Mediterranean coast and enjoys at least six months a year of glorious sunshine per year but also has plenty of warm, sunny days in the winter too.
Antibes is considered by many to be the yachting capital of the Med and it’s marina , Port Vauban is the largest in Europe with berths for over two thousand five hundred boats. At the far end of the port is the “International Quay” otherwise known as the Superyacht Quay. About half of the world’s biggest motor yachts are berthed here for at least part of the year . “Eclipse” , the biggest of them all at present (owned by the infamous Roman Abramovich) is often seen moored just outside the marina as even Port Vauban cannot accommodate it. The Antibes yacht show is held on this quay every year in the spring. Also, in June, is the “Voiles d’Antibes” which is the world’s biggest regatta for vintage teak and brass sailing boats.
Adjacent to the marina is the Old Town of Antibes. Passing through the archway from the port , you are faced with the daily market where the stalls overflow with fresh fruit and vegetables , together with a host of other produce that is in season or indeed produced all year round.
Dominating the old quarter is the picturesque Chateau Grimaldi which today houses the Picasso Museum. The artist lived there for a year or so in 1946 and donated all the paintings and drawings he created there to the town.
Beyond the old town is the Cap d’Antibes , the exclusive peninsula that leads round to Antibes’ sister town , Juan les Pins. The Cap is home to many luxurious houses, mansions and estates with stunning views over the Med. The famous Hotel Eden Roc is tucked away on the Cap where Madonna likes to take her vacation. It does close in the winter as the White House found out when they telephoned recently to say that the president and his team would be staying there but were informed that they were closed !
There are a couple of very pretty beaches in Antibes , either side of the old town but there are long stretches of sand at Juan les Pins which is in walking distance.
